A) Different clauses
“The man who became king
came from France.”
→ Where is
the relative clause? What is its antecedent? THE
MAN
→ Compare
with:
“The man, who became
king, came from France”.
Which difference(s) do you notice?
The first one is necessary to
understand who you are talking about.
On the contrary, the second one only adds
some information which is not necessary (we mentioned the man before…) It is a non-defining
clause.
